We need your help in educating the American public about this situation. Some of the ways that you can help right now is to tell your friends about the AmerAsians and their plight. If you know any of your Congressmen, write them a letter and let them know about the AmerAsians. We are looking for churches or organizations that will sponsor a family once they get to America. Currently they are sponsored for only 90 days by a government contracted organization, and they don’t even speak English by the time they are turned out on their own.

An example of a family we are assisting, a few years ago the father was tailor in another city and will only need about two months of refresher training. He needs a sewing machine and other supplies $200. His income must be subsidized at $50 per month during his training. We have factored in two months pay while he builds a customer base. Total required to help this family is about $400. He doesn’t need all the money at once, we buy the machine and supplies and one month’s income up front and then it is a monthly allotment.

Of course we always need money for office supplies, salary of Vietnamese translators, rental of office and other expenses. I am a volunteer and therefore do not receive a salary. If it creates any kind of a hardship for the AmerAsian to come and meet me for the interview and doing the paperwork, I try to give them a little money for lost wages and travel expenses. I also try to give them a meal as they are here from 4 to 6 hours while we interview them and go through the papers to get them in order.
